CIVIL WAR ENFIELD STYLE SPANISH CONTRACT MODEL 1857 OR P1857 PERC. THREE BAND RIFLE MUSKET, DATED 1864

$2,250.00

29815- CIVIL WAR ENFIELD STYLE SPANISH CONTRACT MODEL 1857 OR P1857 PERC. THREE BAND RIFLE MUSKET, DATED 1864. Quite rare possible Confederate use period copy of the P1853 rifle musket and made by various Spanish armories as well as well known Birmingham makers such as this one is. Has the the typical Birmingham makers proofs on barrel as well as tell tale lock makers marks under lock. Lock stamped Spanish Crown over "AR" (with backwards R). 39" rifled barrel with octagonal bolster area and having "26" bore diameter stamps. Rifled bore is excellent for one of these and ready to be used again if one so chooses. The bolster and nipple are excellent as well with very little pitting. Lock and two stage hammer very solid with original screws. Lock stamped with rack number at back. Other original numbers stamped in various places such as just forward of bolster on barrel, back of stock where there is another number and agent marks opposite in script. Original sights are correct. Original finish on all wood having never been sanded and markings it does have are crisp. Correct brass triggerguard, buttplate and forend cap. Rare three band type with original bands having Crown over "34" on them. 54 1/2" overall. Sling is a late replacement as is the ramrod(I think it was a re-enactor piece for a bit but well taken care of and never refinished in any way. Many of these found their way to America during the Civil War under various contracts with Spain, Belgium and the UK and are often found in poor condition due to hard Southern use. This one happens to be in better than usual condition and will fit in quite nicely with any Civil War collection. Rarer than the two band ones seldom encountered.
